Exam success for Birkenhead A-level students

- Posted 26 Aug 2009

Birkenhead Sixth Form College students have been celebrating after the publication of A Level results.

All Applied Double Award A2s and BTEC National Awards had 100% pass rates along with over 20 other A Level courses.

Scoring a fantastic four A grades were David Kenny, Helen Beddow and Paul Seddon. Martin Man went one better, achieving a phenomenal five As in Biology, Chemistry, Applied ICT, Maths and Further Maths. Martin will read Mathematics at York and Helen takes up a place at Durham to study Sociology. David intends to further develop his skills in Fine Art before commencing degree level study in 2010.

A scholarship in New York State awaits Paul when he has recovered from a knee injury. He will play for their soccer team as well as studying Sport Science with Spanish.

Many students achieved 3 A grades including Richard Gray who scored double A grades in Applied ICT and an A in Applied Business. Richard takes up a place at Brunel in Computer Networking. Friends Rachel McGarry, Gemma Cook, Emily Comer and Rebecca King were celebrating after achieving three As and an additional high grade.

Currently building a community centre and teaching Maths on as a volunteer in Ghana, Laura Darlow was waiting anxiously to hear from her mum that she had been successful. Others members of the A Team, who came to the College from schools across Wirral, will progress to some of the country's top Universities to continue their studies.

Best wishes went out from staff to all Birkenhead Sixth Form College students, many of whom exceeded the results predicted by GCSE grades. Principal Kathryn Podmore said, "The staff and I would like to congratulate the students on their achievements and wish them well in the future. Many of our students will now be able to progress to universities or jobs, which will enable them to pursue interesting and exciting careers."
